I have blog commitment issues...

I can't believe it's been so long since my last blog post!  A lot has happened since my last post in January including a new position which has me putting in more hours at work, the sad end of one of my side businesses to start up a new one, a birthday that has me saying 'what am I doing with my life?!' and of course there is also the rack of other responsibilities that come along with being a working wife and mother...  So yea, sitting down to type a blog post has been the last thing on my mind in the last few months.  That said, I miss it so much and I am willing to give up a little me time and/or beauty sleep to get this blog going again.  I am determined to have this thing called 'blogging' back in my life and so I am making a vow to get back to blogging (again)!

Lately I've been so excited at the thought of blogging regularly again that I've had these creative juices flowing through my veins and it has brought on thoughts of a new blog name, blog site, and a whole new start.... but I'm going to take it slow and ease back in before I decide to make that leap since I don't want to disappoint you or myself if things don't go as planned (hubby says I'm famous for this and it's true, other than at work, I have project commitment issues).  I need to truely COMMIT to this hobby of mine because I fell in love with this thing called blogging many moons ago and I am ready to make it my baby again...

I hope you'll follow me, encourage me, and share in my excitement.  If you are reading this and are also a blogger, new or seasoned, leave me a comment along with your blog address and I'll be sure to stop by and show your blog some love as well.

Being the photo lover that I am, I feel no post is ever complete without a photo...

I Young House Love them!

You may already know the names Sherry and John Petersik.  If you do not know who these two are, trust me, you most definitely want to know them! Sherry and John Petersik run a successful blog called Young House Love where they write about everything from DIY and Home Improvements to Family life and The business of blogging.  They've been a favorite of mine since 2009 and they are the reason I tried my hand at blogging (and DIY-ing) back when I became a brand new home owner. They've had appearances on 'The Nate Berkus Show', spots on local Television news stations, Articles in the The New York Times and The Washington Post (check out their press page here) and with the arrival of their first book there's nowhere to go but up for these two!  On December 1, 2012 I finally got a chance to meet them and this is how it all when down...

It was my usual Saturday morning routine... I wake up and lazily lie in bed while I check my Twitter, Instagram and emails.  This particular morning something got my attention and made me jump to my feet!  It was this picture from Young House Love's Instagram:

As soon as I realized they were in D.C. I immediately went to the Living Social website and snatched up two of the last three tickets to attend their Champagne + Book Signing event happening that evening! I then called my twin sister, Jennifer and begged her to go with me! (How could she say no? I already bought the tickets?!?!)  She had heard me rave about the Petersik's and Young House Love so much that I just had to bring her with me to meet these people who inspired me, and so many others, to tackle home projects on our own!

We arrived around 4pm to Living Social's F Street location.  Since our book signing time was slotted for 4:30PM we waited around in the gorgeously decorated lobby and in true blog-loving-style, I had to get me some pictures!

When it was finally time to check-in we walked up to the counter and presented our printed passes and handed over our IDs. The woman at the counter handed us each a drink ticket and a black poker chip which would allow us to get our (included in the price) copy of their book for signature.

Making our way down the hallway to what I suppose was the 'drink Champagne and mingle' area, I was once again in awe of the decor and, you guessed it, I took a photo!

Isn't that room sexy?! We noticed right away that we were two of only five people in the room at the time (one of which was a baby in a stroller) so we proceeded to drink, toast, and giggle while we took more photos of ourselves. Our guess was that people came in so excited to see John and Sherry that they didn't stick around to mingle...

After goofing off for about 10 minutes we stepped into the elevator and made our way upstairs. I was finally going to meet the two people that, in my eyes, are the Brad and Angelina of the Blog Word!

Once upstairs we noticed the line. Wow! I was impressed. Because Living Social gave us a reserved time slot, we didn't have long to wait.  Handing our poker chips to a lovely young lady she presented us with our books and she gave us each a black marker to properly spell our names for John and Sherry to sign (another genius move). You already know what I did next... Yep! More pictures...

As we got closer we gulped down the rest of our Champagne and began talking about what to say to them and whether or not we should do photos together or separate. We asked if we could do both and they happily accepted!

The meet and greet went very well although it was over far too soon! (For an additional cost they conducted a Holiday Crafting Event that evening but unfortunately due to my last-minuteness we missed out on that). Sherry complemented me on the 'Believe' key necklace I was wearing as I blushed and talked about the two of them inspiring my very first DIY project (horizontal stripes in my bathroom - check it out here). Jenn and I rambled on about being twins and being from Staten Island, NY and we giggled when Sherry nicknamed us her 'Staten Island Twins'.  After pictures were taken, books were signed, and farewells were said we stepped over to the next table to return the favor and sign their book. (Sherry and John had a copy for themselves printed with extra pages to keep momentous from the tour and a place for fan signatures. Isn't that amazing?!)  They've captured my sentimental heart!

(Leave it up to my sister to realize that they appear to be wearing the same outfits as those seen on the front cover of the book! but hey, that just made it all the more special!)

My twin sister, Jenn, and I had a blast that day in DC meeting The Petersik's and drinking Champagne and later having the best Panini in a place right down the street.  It just goes to show you, you never know what adventures will might await you if you decide to do something and just 'go for it' (or check your Instagram first thing in the morning!)  And just in case you are wondering, Yes, they really are as wonderful in real life as they are on their blog.

I must give props and many thanks to Living Social for putting together such a dazzling event, it was truly worth every cent!

I'M BACK!!!

Can you believe it?!  It's been a whole year since I blogged!! How did I survive? Oh yea, with social media sites like Twitter and my Instagram. hahaha!

Hopefully there will be someone out there who is still interested in reading my ramblings. Does this mean that I will write and post something new every day? Probably not... but I do hope to keep you interested and coming back.

With both feet, I'm jumping back in...

Taking a blog break until further notice

I wanna sent a big THANK YOU out to each and every one of you who's ever read this lil old blog of mine.

Quite a few changes are happening in my personal life and I need to take a step back blogging.  I'm not sure how long this break will be  but I need a little time to sort things out so I can come back and give this blog the proper attention it deserves.

If you're new to my blog feel free to check out the post archives.  If you've been around for a while why not look around and see if there is a post or two that you may have missed?

During this hiatus I will try to quit slackin' on my tweets so I you want to stay in touch you can through twitter.  If we're mutual blog friends then you might still see me in the comments section of your blog.  ;0)

And because blog posts are always better with photos, check out this bit of Photoshop fun:

I've been working on making things look miniature w/ tilt shift effects.

Thanks again for your readership and support, I hope to be back to ya soon.

My Vision Board

A vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.  The idea to create one popped into my head the other day while I was washing my hair in the shower.  A few hours later I was cutting images out of magazines (If you know me you know I always magazines on hand) and yes, I could have made my vision board digitally via online pictures and editing software but I wanted to do mine the good old fashioned way with cutting and gluing.   ;0)

My apologies for the terrible picture but my vision board looks like this:

Here's how it should read:"Be your best self, rich, amazing, sensible, well-traveled, hot stuff and happier". <--These are all of the things I want to be in the future.

It probably goes without saying that the picture of the beautiful actress, Jada Pinkett Smith, surrounded by a sea of shoes represents my desire to be rich or well off.  The house pictures and small picture in the lower right hand corner of the woman and two kids represent that I want to have an amazing (new) house and home life and be an amazing mother.  The vacation pictures at the bottom left corner represent my desire to be well-traveled and take plenty of vacations.  The woman pictured to the left wearing a red bikini represents the type of shape I want to be in (I can't remember EVER wearing a bikini so this might be a dream for real but we'll see).  The couple in the upper left hand corner represents my need to be happier in my relationship and with myself in general (and should I get divorced in the future it'll remind me that I shouldn't be afraid to let myself be loved).  Last, but certainly not least, the picture in the middle represents the photography portfolio I wish to have finished one day. (If I happen to wind up in Italy taking some landscape shots, well that's definitely a plus!)

So, have you ever created or thought about creating a vision board? What are your thoughts on it?

Nostalgia...

If the words View Master, ShrinkyDinks, Whistle Pop, Garbage Pail Kids or Gargamel mean something to you or if you've said, "I had one of those!" after spotting the latest version of a Lite-Brite from Hasbro at your local toys-r-us then you definitely belong in my crowd!  ;0)  Items from my 70's and 80's childhood are being sold on Perpetualkid.com and they have me feeling nostalgic.

Dana Tanamachi

I love it when I come across an artists who's work makes me say, "WOW, I wish I could do that!" ;0)

Dana Tanamachi is the latest target of my art envy and she's definitely one to watch.  Dana is a graphic designer and chalk letterer out of Brooklyn New York and without knowing her name I'm sure you've already seen and recognize her work:
